2017 marks first annual Heritage Festival Weekend in Cumberland County. From August 31 to September 9 we will share the heritage of Cumberland County through a series of festivals and events across the region. The aim of this new venture is to share the history and heritage of our region through festivals, tours, and talks.

This year Cumberland County Historical Society, in partnership with Greater Carlisle Heart & Soul, will launch our first annual Whiskey Rebellion Festival on Sunday, Sept. 3. This free event, will be held in downtown Carlisle, and feature reenactments of George Washington’s review of the militia in Carlisle during the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion. There will also be vendors and whiskey tastings from local distilleries.

From September 4-9, Greater Carlisle Heart & Soul will host FREE events throughout the week that celebrate our region’s heritage. A tour and picnic at Mount Holly Marsh Preserve, historic tours of African American churches and cemeteries, a Tour of LEAF’s farm, and a guided ride on Cumberland Valley Rails to Trails in Carlisle are all events you can join for Free. See the full list of events HERE.

We look forward to seeing you at 2017 Heritage Festival Weekend!
